On Tuesday, December 28, 2010, my courtroom was the site of a bittersweet occasion, the retirement party of Medina County Clerk of Courts Kathy Fortney. It was bittersweet because on the one hand it was a opportunity to recognize Kathy's distinguished career of public service to Medina County. On the other hand it was very sad to see her leave her position. Kathy's staff threw a great party for her which was very well attended, not only by people in the courthouse, but by people from all around the county.
Since I became a Medina County Common Pleas Judge in 1997, Kathy was always very helpful, dedicated, professional, and a friend to mys'elf and my staff. We will miss her very much. Below is a picture of my reading the proclamation issued by the Mayor of Medina, Dennis Hanwell an,d the Medina City Council, recognizing Kathy's contribution as a elected official in Medina County.
